In BC over one million people care for family members and friends who are seniors. They are unpaid caregivers who provide incidental or around the clock care.
Caring for someone is incredibly rewarding. Caregivers can and do experience isolation, grief, and exhaustion, along with joy and compassion. We want caregivers in our community to know: you are not alone! There are resources and support for you right here in Trail.
If you are a caregiver for a family member or a friend over the age of 55, you can come to the in-person Caregiver Peer Support Group. We meet on the first and third Thursday each month from 1 to 2:30 pm in Trail. This free, facilitated group is a place where you can learn, get support, share successes and frustrations, and connect with other caregivers.
For more information and to register, please call 778-671-1017, or email: trail@wkbcaregiver.org. If you can’t come in person, there’s a monthly on-line support group, and a support phone line. The West Kootenay Boundary Caregiver Support website is: http://wkbcaregiver.org and it is full of resources.
Caregivers are some of our unsung heroes. It can be lonely and a struggle to do it on your own and you don’t have to. Call or email today and find the resources and support that work for you. It is so important to look after yourself when you are caring for someone else.
