Find out what happens when you or a loved one leaves part of your estate to a public institution like a park, healthcare facility or… a library. On Wednesday, October 23 at 6:30pm, professionals in estate planning and will development will be giving informational presentations to the public at the Nelson Public Library.
Estate planning, will development, and understanding what happens to personal assets when someone passes are daunting and deeply personal subjects to broach. That’s why, as part of the Nelson Public Library’s Legacy Campaign, its Trustees are hosting an event this October during which speakers will address these topics.
Whether you consider yourself a philanthropist, or only occasionally tap the “donate now” button while checking out at the grocery store, attend this event to develop a better understanding of how legacy donations, bequests and direct donations work (how they’re made, common parameters and tax implications to anticipate). Library leaders will also be sharing how these common avenues of financial support have a lasting impact on the social wellbeing of our community.
“A highlight of our weekly grocery shopping day in Nelson is the 10am opening of the Library,” one library user explains, “Nelson is so privileged to have a library with its large number of books and many programs for children and adults.”
It is indeed a privilege that the Nelson Public Library is able to provide the breadth of programming and resources it does, because it is not sustainably resourced by all levels of government to operate at this level. The privilege of running many programs and housing large numbers of books, rather than occasional programs and some books, is due to the supplemental funding it receives from donors.
